Panels have an image problem
Why does almost every survey panel use the exact same banner image? It's so kitsch, so camp, so cliché -- it's insulting. How could any reasonable person conclude this is a good idea?
It's just bad, bad, lazy web design. If your website or survey pages have this crap on them, fire the manager in charge and hand the reigns over to the youngest creative person you have.
Seriously, this screams "I'm not even trying!" It's shag carpet for your website.

To be fair, it can be quite hard to find a reasonable image that fits a certain subject in stockphoto archives sometimes. Even finding a non-US centered picture can be a challenge.
Then again: this is also because of the constraints the design team gets: smiling "happy" people. Narrows your search quite a bit within the already very cliche stockphoto websites.
It's a good thing to have a look at this, before requesting any design (changes) perhaps: http://tpdsaa.tumblr.com/ Personally I don't really feel that much for "fake-smiling happy people of varied racial groups preferably with a computer" type of pics. But somewhere there is a management-book that says otherwise. (Then again: maybe it does work and it's only a couple of us thinking it looks faux?)
The art of original content has gone out the window. How hard would it be to gather up a flew employees and get them to smile for a photo or to ask for your respondents to send in pictures or have a real-life interaction with them and take their photos? I agree it's just lazy and happens too often.
If you have respondents send in pics there are copyright issues in using them. (And some design issues, probably.)
Having a decent photoshoot would be a good alternative, especially if you're ruinning a large marketing campaign.
Valued Opinions have a brilliant illustration of a smiling man holding his smiling son in his arms with the caption "I enjoy taking Valued Opinions surveys!"
Why not post your own copyright free (superior) image and track how frequently that one gets adopted?
I read marketing research article, this article very informative and interesting..I refer your blog to many of my friends as well.
Thanks for sharing knowledge..
